About the Role:
Make a meaningful impact this summer as a Day Camp Inclusion Coordinator! You’ll help every camper feel safe, welcomed, and empowered to thrive by promoting inclusion and accessibility across YMCA Summer Day Camp programs. This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about inclusion, skilled in positive behaviour support, and enjoys coaching others.
This is a contract position from May 19, 2026 to August 21, 2026.
This position requires flexible availability between 7:30am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday. Specific hours of work will vary based on program needs.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate meaningful participation for campers with diverse needs by helping staff adapt activities and routines to promote inclusion. Promote a positive, inclusive camp culture that celebrates differences and fosters belonging.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) in collaboration with counselors, families, support workers, and leadership. Respond to behavioural incidents calmly and constructively, prioritizing safety, dignity, and learning for all involved.
- Support counsellors in applying inclusive practices, de-escalation techniques, and strength-based approaches.
- Provide real-time coaching and mentorship to counsellors to build confidence in inclusive program delivery. Assist with staff training and ongoing professional development related to inclusion and behaviour management.
- Collaborate with Day Camp Coordinators and Lead Coordinators to ensure program plans are accessible, equitable, and engaging for all participants. Various activities include: sports, science, art, e-sports.
- Contribute to team meetings by sharing insights, strategies, and feedback to support camper and staff success, including soft skills and digital skills in the workplace.
- Develop digital skills in the workplace – such as understanding proper etiquette on various communication channels with supervisors and coworkers via email, instant messaging, texts, etc.
- Serve as a key contact for families, maintaining professional, respectful, and timely communication about camper needs and progress.
- Maintain accurate records for behaviour plans, incidents, attendance, and program-related documentation.
- Follow YMCA Health, Safety, Child Protection, and Emergency policies, and act as a first responder for health, safety, and behaviour-related concerns as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or post-secondary education related to recreation, child studies, psychology, education, or a related field is an asset.
- Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Intermediate (Standard) First Aid & CPR-C certification or willing to obtain.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coach and support staff effectively.
- Eager to learn and open to receiving feedback on soft skills and digital presence in the workplace.
- Knowledge of inclusive practices, trauma-informed care, and behaviour guidance principles is an asset.
- Experience working with children and youth who have developmental, behavioural, or learning differences – plus working with children and youth in camp, recreation, or educational settings is an asset.
- No older than 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
