The Biomedical Engineering Technician I (BMET I) maintains medical equipment readiness and ensures conformance with manufacturer specifications by performing scheduled maintenance, repairs, end‑user support, and installations. BMET technicians support compliance with the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) to improve patient safety.

Responsibilities
  • Test and calibrate medical devices (preventive maintenance).
  • Troubleshoot medical devices in a clinical or bench/depot setting (corrective maintenance).
  • Install and inspect new, trial, or demonstration equipment prior to use (incoming inspection).
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory processes required (e.g., CMS, FDA GMP, NJDOH).
  • Educate self on proper use, care, and maintenance of medical devices.
  • Review technical manuals to understand product specifications and safety.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Troubleshoot device networks and report findings to leadership.
  • Maintain inventory of repair parts, supplies, and technical resources.
  • Order repair parts and components using the HMH ERP system.
  • Track incoming and outgoing equipment logs for repair and maintenance.
  • Transport and coordinate courier devices between Biomedical Engineering and other sites.
  • Perform minor repairs on devices as directed.
  • Stay informed about changes, enhancements, and new features of equipment.
  • Attend on‑site and off‑site training, including travel and overnight stays.
  • Travel to all HMH locations as needed.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Lift, push, and pull a minimum of 50 lbs.; stand for 6+ hours a day.
Qualifications – Education, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • AS degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience; alternatively, high school diploma or GED with at least 2 years of full‑time electronics experience.
  • Basic understanding of electronic/mechanical devices.
  • Basic customer‑service skills for electronic/mechanical device support.
  • Unrestricted ability to attend training requiring travel and overnight stays.
  • Knowledge of current technology as it relates to healthcare.
  • Ability to perform duties with some supervision.
  • Experience with electromechanical devices, computers, networks, and software used in healthcare delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Full‑time experience working in Biomedical Engineering.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Compensation

Minimum rate: $34.65 per hour.

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted rate is a reasonable good‑faith estimate of the minimum base pay at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act.

  • Performance‑based incentives, bonuses, or commissions may be available.
  • Shift differentials may apply for evening, night, or weekend work.
