DAF Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technician Apprenticeship
Working alongside qualified technicians who will be dealing with all aspects of the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles. Inspecting and repairing a range of heavy vehicles (HVs) and trailers for dealerships, independent garages and franchise and large fleet operators. Level 3 Apprenticeship. The course is fully supported with all the training you require to become fully qualified. With the rapid increase in the complexity of today's trucks – and the technology needed to keep them up and running – first‑class training for those involved in the vital servicing and maintenance of these vehicles has become more important than ever.
The HTC Apprentice Programme gives you the chance to join a select group of specialist technicians working on some of the most modern, sophisticated trucks on the road. The day‑to‑day tasks include:
- Observing and assisting senior technicians
- Following health and safety procedures
- Servicing
- MOTs
- All aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, carrying out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV
- The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes.
- Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
- The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers' standards.
- Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HVs.
- Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester's manual.
- Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
- Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem‑solving techniques and regimes.
- Maintain records to company and operators' licence obligations and regulation.
- To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.
Not only will Apprentices be working and be trained at a HTC garage, but they will also attend our DAF Nottingham Training Centre four times a year for two‑week periods to work towards their Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. An advisor will visit at least every six weeks as part of a close support network to ensure that Apprentices are both enjoying and succeeding in their course.
