Innovation Consultant - R&D and Design

Salary: up to £70,000 basic (poss flex for the right person)

Location: Reading (5 days per week in the office, close to the station)

A high-growth UK technology scale-up is expanding its platform to deliver a new generation of industry-specific solutions for complex financial operations.

The business operates in a fast-moving, R&D-style environment where ideas are tested, refined, and scaled quickly. This role sits at the heart of that work, shaping how real-world financial workflows are translated into clear, repeatable, and scalable solutions.

It is well suited to someone who enjoys working at pace, collaborating closely with experts, and turning complexity into elegant, practical designs.

The Solutions & Industry Design Specialist will work with internal subject-matter experts and external industry specialists to design scalable solutions across sectors such as Fin Tech, Payments, Banking, Insurance, Asset Management, and other data-heavy industries.

The role blends research, consulting, and solution design, with a strong focus on understanding how financial operations actually work and how they can be improved through technology.

• Understand client and industry challenges and map them to platform capabilities
• Design solution frameworks, workflows, and data models for specific industry verticals
• Use tools such as Figma, Miro, AI-assisted design tools, and visual mock-ups to illustrate end-to-end workflows
• Break down complex use cases into minimal viable solutions with clear iteration roadmaps
• Conduct research, interviews, and workshops to gather insight and validate assumptions
• Collaborate closely with Product, Delivery, and Marketing teams to bring solutions to market
• Create playbooks, use cases, and solution documentation for internal and external use
• Stay informed on regulatory change, industry trends, and evolving operational practices

• 2–6 years’ experience in financial operations, consulting, business analysis, or solution design
• Excellent understanding of financial reconciliations, financial controls, financial operations (general ledger, treasury etc)
• Strong analytical capability, with the ability to simplify complex processes into structured flows and visuals using tools that might include Miro or Figma
• Comfortable working with subject-matter experts and senior stakeholders
• Curious, proactive, and motivated to influence how products and solutions evolve
• Previous experience using AI tools in a professional or personal context
