Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated and experienced delivery suite coordinator midwife to join the practice education and development team for 8 months maternity leave cover. The successful applicant will be responsible for intrapartum and MAU education and support the delivery of the maternity education programme.

The midwife will work 11.5 hours per week on Delivery in the Band 7 coordinator role.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and high level of motivation by showing a strong commitment to the maternity service.
  • Be accountable for midwifery performance and achievement of all organisational targets and standards, working within the Trust's governance framework and current regulatory and policy requirements. To be aware of local and national guidance for maternity services.
  • Demonstrate excellent personal communication by establishing effective links with the multi-professional education team.
  • To demonstrate that women and family are involved in both decisions affecting their care and wellbeing and in service development. To practice in accordance with professional, ethical and legal codes of Nursing and Midwifery Council, Trust protocols and guidelines. To be accountable for own practice and for the delegation of care that is given to more junior colleagues, support workers, or students.
  • Prioritise workload to meet targets. To be able to work under pressure by seeking creative solutions to challenges. Ensure that the department manager and Matron are alerted to any quality issues that may affect both women/relatives and staff.
  • To be responsible for ensuring clinical practice is in line with Data Protection/Confidentiality/Caldicott principles. To ensure communication networks are in place to share confidential information across organisational boundaries where appropriate.
  • To actively promote diversity, both in the delivery of the care group services and in the recruitment, management and development of staff within the clinical areas. Generate and sustain relationships that promote dignity, rights and responsibilities. To take action to address discrimination and oppression.
  • To promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of the women and their families.
  • To be responsible for managing changes in clinical practice and service delivery throughout maternity services to meet the needs of women and their families.
Clinical And Technical
  • Demonstrate specialist expertise and professional knowledge acquired through post registration academic, clinical, leadership and management development. To work as a role model for professional practice and understand the impact of poor performance.
  • To work in collaboration with the Lead PDM, Matron and clinical leads/ward managers/other practice development team members to develop and monitor performance, clinical outcomes to help improve and develop high standards of care for women. To place the woman's experience at the core of service delivery.
  • To monitor and audit the quality of care through a range of strategies, including risk management incident reporting, complaints, research and effectiveness monitoring and clinical audit.
  • To practice in accordance with NMC code and professional guidelines, Trust policies, protocols.
  • To ensure that the interests and well‑being of babies are paramount whilst continuing to act as an advocate for the mother.
  • To be accountable for communication and dissemination of information as appropriate to midwives/other health professionals/agencies.
Teaching And Training
  • To ensure that newly appointed midwifery staff have appropriate orientation and induction programmes to be able to work effectively in their clinical area.
