Job Overview

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist with extensive hand and wrist clinical, leadership and management experience to join our Hand Service at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Main duties of the job
  • Work autonomously as an advanced physiotherapist/occupational therapist developing and delivering specialised programmes of care for patients with complex needs.
  • Advise and treat patients within the musculoskeletal department and support the Trauma and Orthopaedic department, working alongside consultants and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
  • Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical data to form accurate diagnoses, prognoses and inform complex decision making, ensuring the delivery of high quality patient‑focused care.
  • Develop advanced practitioner skills under the guidance of a consultant and Advanced Clinical Practitioner.
  • Support the Professional Lead of Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy and Advanced Clinical Practitioners in identifying and engaging in professional development and transforming service delivery.
  • Deputise for the Advanced Clinical Practitioner on agreed clinical and service development groups and boards.
  • Provide advanced training, advice and clinical education to service users, commissioners and staff.
  • Support the development of a learning‑based culture, including training, supervision and appraisal for physiotherapists, occupational therapists, support staff and students.
Person Specification

Education & Registration

  • Essential: HCPC registered;
    Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy;
    Extensive post‑graduate training.
  • Desirable:
    Member of a Specialist Body.

Experience

  • Essential:
    Extensive post‑graduate clinical experience;
    Experience in wrist and hand management.
  • Desirable:
    Previous experience working in Orthopaedic Clinics; BAHT Level 1;
    Previous experience in a clinical specialist role.

Knowledge

  • Essential:
    Additional courses in the relevant field.
  • Desirable:
    Previous involvement in research or service development;
    Injection qualification; IRMER trained;
    Interpretation of investigations including X‑ray.
