Start your finance career with Thames Water. Join us as an Accounts Technician Apprentice and gain hands-on knowledge while earning a Level 3 qualification. You’ll learn how our Operations Finance teams help the business plan, track and understand performance, and contribute to work that keeps our services running for millions of customers.
What you’ll be doing as an Accounts Technician Level 3 ApprenticeAs an apprentice, you’ll learn by doing. You’ll join our Operations Finance team and be supported every step of the way as you develop practical skills in the following areas:
- Financial Planning
- Support the Financial Planning and Accounting Manager in preparing reporting, consolidations, timetables & communications, with strong financial controls and critical evaluation embedded in the processes.
- Prepare monthly financial reports on performance.
- Develop and implement logical standards and modelling of Key Performance Indicators.
- Involvement in formal budget & forecast cycles including rolling forecasts & long-term business plans.
- Management Accounting
- Support the Financial Controller in understanding and transacting core financial processes.
- Ranging from regular cycle close processes, core financial control compliance and review, production/provision of information for statutory and regulatory accounts and preparing for audit.

Hours:
36 hours a week across four working days plus one off-the-job training day, with two days on site

You’ll study with First Intuition, one of the UK’s leading finance training providers. Your training includes:
- Classroom and online learning options.
- Face-to-face and live online development days.
- Support from your dedicated skills coach.
- Access to an online learning environment throughout your programme.
Qualification:
Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard Level 3
Duration: 18 months
What you should bring to the roleIf you’re passionate about numbers and excited to learn, this could be the perfect role for you. We’re looking for someone who:
- Has GCSE Maths and English (grade 9-4 / A-C)
- Holds 3 A-levels in related subjects.
- Thinks logically and enjoys problem-solving.
- Can manage their time well and stay organised.
- Works well in a team but is also confident working independently.
- Excellent salary: £22,500 per annum
- Annual Leave: 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with length of service (plus bank holidays)
- Performance-related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets
