Our TOTEX Modeller plays a pivotal role in how MBNL makes investment decisions - ensuring every pound spent across capital and operations delivers maximum long-term value. This role sits at the intersection of finance, asset management, and strategy, providing the analytical backbone for business planning, investment submissions, and whole-life asset decisions.
You’ll build and maintain models that shape how infrastructure is funded, maintained, and transformed - balancing cost, risk, performance, and regulatory expectations.

In this role, you will help MBNL to optimise cost, manage risk intelligently, and justify strategic decisions with confidence.
This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 2 days per week in our Central Reading office.
You’ll act as the authority on whole-life cost modelling—bringing clarity, rigour, and insight to complex investment choices. You’ll:
- Build, maintain, and enhance whole-life cost models covering OPEX, CAPEX, depreciation, lifecycle costs, and risk impacts.
- Analyse asset performance and maintenance strategies to identify optimal investment scenarios.
- Develop sensitivity, uncertainty, and risk‑based scenarios to support strategic decision‑making.
- Provide modelling evidence for business plans, investment submissions, and financial forecasts.
- Source, validate, and integrate data from asset systems, finance, engineering, and operations.
- Ensure modelling inputs are accurate, consistent, and auditable.
- Translate complex analytical outputs into clear insights and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Support the development of business plans and investment submissions.
- Ensure models align with regulatory methodologies and reporting requirements.
- Produce evidence packs, cost justifications, and scenario analyses.
- Work closely with Finance, Asset Management, Engineering, Operations, and Regulatory teams.
- Explain modelling assumptions and outputs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide challenge and assurance to cost estimates, business cases, and investment appraisals.
- Maintain model documentation, version control, and audit trails.
- Improve modelling accuracy, automation, and analytical maturity.
- Help define standard methods, tools, and templates across the modelling function.
You’re a technically strong modeller who enjoys solving real-world problems with data and insight. You’ll have:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills in financial, economic, or asset modelling.
- Proficiency with Excel, Power BI, Python/R, SQL, or specialist modelling tools.
- Solid understanding of lifecycle costing, depreciation, and whole-life asset management.
- Experience handling large, complex datasets.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas simply and clearly.
- Experience in regulated industries (water, energy, transport, telecoms).
- Knowledge of ISO 55000 asset management.
- Experience contributing to investment business plans.
- Professional qualifications (CIMA, CFA, IAM, or similar).
