Accountant (Treasury and VAT)

Our client, a prestigious and leading educational establishment based near Thatcham, Berkshire has an exciting opportunity to join their team as an Accountant.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, and working closely with the Director of Finance and Operations, this role assists with the successful management of the School's Finance function and acts as cover for the Head of Finance when required.

This is a busy and varied role, focusing as a VAT specialist however the successful candidate will have an understanding of the full range of financial functions such as budgeting, management accounts and more.

The successful candidate will be entitled to a salary of £45k, there may be salary flexibility dependent on experience, as well as a benefits package.

The Role

• VAT and Tax (Partial exemption calculation, accurate production and submission of VAT Returns, ensuring all VAT reclaimable is received and reconciled)
• Ensuring all VAT due to paid is on a timely basis and correctly reconciled
• Ensuring VAT/Tax knowledge is kept up to date
• Daily Bank Reconciliation and paying/processing invoices when required
• Preparation of Budget reports and assisting with Month End financial processes
• Acting as support to Head of Finance and provide cover when required

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong understanding of VAT and tax regulations
• The institution is open minded to qualifications or those qualified by experience
• Experience of working in an educational or charity sector is desirable, however not essential
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Happy to work independently and work as a team
• Excellent knowledge of IT and Excel
