Position: Senior, Principal or Associate Consultant (Permitting and Compliance) United Kingdom

Job Description

At WSP we are looking for Senior and Principal Consultants to join our Environmental Permitting, Compliance & Nuclear Regulation team. You will support the UK’s transition to a secure, sustainable, low‑carbon energy future across a range of clients in the energy, waste, industrial, manufacturing and utilities sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare environmental permit applications and underpinning technical assessments (BAT, risk assessments, etc.) for installations, waste operations and water discharge activities.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative environmental risk assessments and evaluate mitigation measures.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies, clients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance and timely delivery.
  • Support the development and maintenance of strong client relationships through high‑quality delivery and trusted advice.
  • Collaborate with a team of 25+ specialists and mentor junior colleagues when appropriate.
  • Participate in projects of varying size, from national to local, across the UK and occasionally abroad.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Relevant degree and membership of a professional body or recognised industry accreditation.
  • Detailed understanding of Environmental Permitting Regulations and related guidance.
  • Experience preparing permit applications and technical assessments for industrial and waste activities.
  • Knowledge of industrial processes in the energy/waste/manufacturing/utility sectors and ability to communicate technical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver to tight timelines and present clear, evidence‑based advice.
  • Client‑focused, responsive approach and strong project management skills.
  • Self‑motivated, collaborative, and a clear communicator.
