Mechanical Design Engineer – 5 Month Contract

5 Month Initial Contract (Potential Extension)

We’re currently supporting a busy engineering team in Reading who require an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for an initial 5-month contract.

This role would suit someone who thrives in a fast‑paced project environment and enjoys getting stuck into practical, hands‑on design work.

You’ll be supporting ongoing engineering projects, producing detailed design work and contributing across the full design lifecycle — from concept through to manufacture.

• Producing 2D and 3D mechanical designs
• Creating and updating technical drawings
• Modifying existing designs to meet new specifications
• Liaising with manufacturing, production or installation teams
• Assisting with documentation and design reviews

We’re open to engineers from a variety of sectors, including:

• Manufacturing
• Machinery / Special Purpose Equipment
• Automotive
• MEP / Building Services

• Good working knowledge of Solid Works (3D modelling & assemblies)
• Experience working in a project-based environment
• Ability to work independently and hit the ground running
• Experience with sheet metal, fabrication, or mechanical assemblies would be beneficial, but not essential.

• Practical, solutions-focused mindset
• Comfortable working to tight deadlines
• Adaptable across different types of mechanical design
• Available at short notice or within 2–4 weeks

• Hybrid working may be available (depending on project stage)
