Senior R&D Engineer - Optics & Prototyping

Overview

Senior R&D Engineer to join a specialist Concept Development Team focused on early-stage design and innovation in optical and metrology technologies.

Location:

Surrey, England (Hybrid option available). Salary: £63,000 + bonus.

Hours:

Full-Time | 8-Hour Standard Day Shift. Benefits: 33 days holiday per year (inc BH) + Pension scheme + Private Medical & Healthcare.

• Design and prototype new imaging and metrology systems
• Build breadboard and mock-up models for feasibility testing
• Contribute to optical and digital system architecture
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies
• Collaborate across optical, mechanical, electronic and software disciplines
• Benchmark competitors and identify innovation opportunities
• Align technical requirements with suppliers and partners
• Present progress and technical findings to R&D stakeholders

• Minimum 5 years' experience in R&D or early-stage product engineering
• Strong optical or imaging systems background
• Skilled in bread boarding, prototyping, and hands-on rig work
• Working knowledge of Zemax, CREO, Mathcad or similar
• Degree in Physics, Optoelectronics, Mechatronics or a related field
• Comfortable operating in a cross-functional innovation team
