Role Overview

York High School is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join our Inclusion Team, supporting students with special educational needs. This role focuses on helping struggling readers through targeted interventions, removing barriers, and enabling them to access the curriculum. You will work with individual students as well as small groups.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students with SEN in literacy and maths.
  • Implement targeted intervention programmes to improve reading and comprehension skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff and external specialists to plan and deliver inclusive lessons.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and intervention outcomes.
  • Support classroom management and behaviour management strategies.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English and maths at grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational or related setting.
  • Good communication skills and ability to build relationships with staff, students and families.
  • Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or higher) desirable.
