Milk Education is working with a large SEND specialist provision in the Reading area to recruit Autism Support Workers who genuinely want to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people with complex SEND needs. This role focuses on supporting learners with Autism and ADHD, alongside a range of additional learning needs, including pupils who are non‑verbal or have significant communication differences.
This role is well suited to individuals who are patient, calm, and confident, particularly when supporting students who benefit from structured routines, clear communication strategies, and consistent emotional support. Pupils may present with sensory processing differences, emotional regulation needs, or behaviours that communicate unmet needs within a specialist school environment in Reading.
Both full‑time and part‑time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability.
Key Responsibilities- Provide consistent 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils aged 5–19 with complex SEND, including Autism and ADHD
- Support non‑verbal pupils using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) strategies
- Use tools such as Makaton, visual timetables, and communication boards to support understanding and engagement
- Support the delivery of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Encourage emotional regulation, communication, and engagement in learning
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, school staff, and external professionals
- Help create a structured, calm, and inclusive learning environment
- Experienced support workers open to working with children are well suited due to the complex needs of pupils at this Reading school
- Previous experience administering personal care is advantageous, or a willingness to support in this area if required
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- A patient, caring, and non‑judgemental approach
- Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to individual needs
- Ability to work proactively, both independently and as part of a team
- An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
- Allocated free parking available in a car park local to the school
