Band 4 Technical Instructor – Craft and Vocational Activities

Due to retirement, we have a very exciting opportunity available for a band 4 technical instructor at Wathwood Hospital to provide craft and vocational based activity.

We are looking for a creative and motivated individual to join the occupational therapy team to work within the craft room and the wider hospital. The craft room provides a range of practical activities for patients, and has facilities for woodwork, DIY, pottery, arts and craft. We have also facilitated basic mechanics sessions. This rare opportunity will bring change, and we are open to new and innovative ideas!

The hospital has excellent facilities for patients and provides a wide range of leisure, sport, craft, vocational and educational opportunities. There is also a large horticulture area which provides great links with the local community. The occupational therapy service is well established and provides a comprehensive range of interventions to promote rehabilitation and mental health recovery.

• Assist occupational therapists to develop, deliver and evaluate a needs-led programme of group and individual craft/vocational/practical activity as part of the occupational therapy programme.
• Facilitate purposeful and therapeutic activity within the designated areas (within the unit and in the community) and act as session lead as appropriate.
• Ensure the maintenance of a safe and secure treatment environment within designated areas, including the development and adherence of group protocols, adhering to Trust policy and procedure, and risk management plans.
• Keep accurate, appropriate and contemporaneous patient records in accordance with Trust Policy, and undertake administrative tasks relevant to the post as required by the service.

• Relevant vocational/craft qualification or equivalent experience, and application of this in the workplace.
• Awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace.

Wathwood Hospital is a purpose-built, 78 bed adult male medium secure hospital in Rotherham South Yorkshire. Located in its own grounds and surrounded by open countryside and woods, it caters for those aged between 18 and 65 who require assessment and treatment of mental health difficulties in a secure environment.
