Position Summary

Responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems.

• Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
• Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications
• Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and to determine that holes will not cause structural weakness
• Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers
• Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine
• Thread pipe using threading machine
• Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine
• Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including brass, copper, lead, glass and plastic
• Join pipe by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints
• Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers
• Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping
• Test piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
• Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members
• May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice
• Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent

• 4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
• High school diploma or GED Certification (preferred)
• Applicable Pipefitter training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body (preferred)

• Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations
• Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings on-site with crews and subcontractors
• Set a personal example of safe behavior
• Read and interpret safety rules and maintenance instructions
• Perform basic arithmetic and unit conversions related to weight, measurement and volume
• Carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form with accuracy
• Maintain attention to detail and follow set procedures and standards
• Maintain good relations with team members and supervisors

• Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical tasks in varying temperatures and outside conditions
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; use arms, hands, and legs to push, pull, and perform tasks; prone to bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing
• Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously
• Exposure to various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and loud noises
• Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment
• Ability to work at heights and follow fall-protection requirements

This is a full-time position typically scheduled for 50 hours per week. Schedule subject to project requirements.

Travel up to 90%; presence directly on the project site is required with intermittent travel to residence of record.
