Position Summary

The Form Carpenter Helper I is required to perform a variety of tasks including erecting and setting forms for vertical and horizontal concrete structures and site work, per specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc., to perform tasks accurately.
  • Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
  • Assist in setting and placement of forms to proper elevations and location; prepare the base and install proper reinforcing.
  • Experience and/or exposure in setting and erecting forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems for vertical and horizontal concrete forming.
  • Assist in the marking, cutting, and assembly lines on materials; assist in shaping materials to prescribed measurements and assemble, fasten with nails, dowel pins or glue.
  • Able to assist in general carpentry tasks, such as building and installing barricades, decks, shelves, and other site needs as they arise.
  • Assist in placing/tying rebar and in placing and finishing concrete.
  • Attain set standards of accuracy and perform duties in a safe manner.
Qualifications Education and Work Experience Requirements
  • 6 months - 1 year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in carpenter helper role
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior and follow all health and safety guidelines (state, company, client, OSHA, and federal).
  • Maintain good housekeeping by cleaning up work areas and job sites after tasks.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Physical Demands
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
  • Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs; push/pull and frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb as needed.
  • Stamina for repetitive tasks over several hours; adaptable to changing weather and site conditions.
  • Moderate exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; work at heights with safety and fall-protection requirements.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings and interpret measurable details.
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet; maintain balance at heights; see and hear clearly (with or without correction).
