Position Summary

The Form Carpenter Helper I is required to perform a variety of tasks including erecting and setting forms for vertical and horizontal concrete structures and site work, per specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc., to perform tasks accurately.
  • Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
  • Assist in setting and placement of forms to proper elevations and location; prepare the base and install proper reinforcing.
  • Experience and/or exposure in setting and erecting forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems for vertical and horizontal concrete forming.
  • Assist in the marking, cutting, and assembly lines on materials. Assist in shaping materials to prescribed measurements and assemble, fasten with nails, dowel pins or glue.
  • Able to assist in general carpentry tasks, such as building and installing barricades, decks, shelves, and any other site needs.
  • Be able to assist in placing/tying rebar and in placing and finishing concrete.
  • Attain set standards of accuracy and perform duties in a safe manner.
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • 6 months - 1 year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in carpenter helper role

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • On-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior and follow all state, company, client, OSHA, and federal guidelines regarding health and safety.
  • Maintain good housekeeping by cleaning up the work area and jobsite after each task.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Physical Demands
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • Must maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs to push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb.
  • Stamina to perform tasks repetitively for extended periods.
  • Exposure to variable environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, and loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; work at heights with fall-protection equipment as required.
  • Visualize three-dimensional objects from drawings; see details and differences in shapes and shading; coordinate eye–hand–foot actions.
