The Concrete Finisher JM is responsible for levelling the top surface of freshly poured concrete, grout, and similar products on floors, walls, ceilings, foundations, or sidewalks.
Responsibilities- Levelling the top surface of freshly poured concrete, grout, and similar products on floors, walls, ceilings, foundations, or sidewalks.
- Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc. to perform tasks accurately.
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams.
- Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
- Place, vibrate, finish, etc. concrete poured in all applications (walls, slabs, footings, piers, etc.).
- Repair and correct concrete as needed.
- Prepare and install grout for steel, equipment, etc.
- Assist robusters and concrete workers.
- Use various hand and power tools, as well as power trowel.
- Inspect finished concrete work.
- Monitor temperature effects on concrete.
- Position molds and forms.
- Operate a power vibrator to consolidate concrete.
- Apply hardening agents, sealants, curing agents, and other compounds to related concrete work.
- Waterproof, damp‑proof, and restore concrete surfaces.
- Install anchor bolts, steel plates and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete.
- Operate concrete tools.
- Mix and pour concrete.
- Have experience and understanding of finishing techniques to achieve a specified finish.
- Cut concrete with saw.
- Perform patching and sacking activities as required after removal.
- Direct equipment drivers/trucks.
- Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training.
- Have basic knowledge of construction processes in heavy industrial construction.
- A Master Journeyman must be able to direct a small crew and/or mentor other journeymen and helpers.
- Support project with other tasks as directed by supervisor.
- Work under production schedule pressure.
- Attain set standards of accuracy.
- Work different shifts and overtime as required.
- Direct a small crew and/or mentor Journeyman and Helpers.
- Communicate with Foreman regarding any problems, materials required, or hazards noted.
- Perform duties safely.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Journeyman: minimum of four (4) years’ experience in craft.
- Master Journeyman: minimum of four years’ experience in craft and an approved certification such as NCCER.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project‑specific regulations.
- Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors on site.
- Set a personal example of safe behavior.
