Overview

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Barista, you are an integral member of the team at the heart of our Cafés. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right beverages and café items.

Equally, you are an essential part of the café team in maintaining the attractive presentation and ensuring the efficient running of the Café. You help unpack and stock deliveries and to tidy our bakes case and dining area. You work our registers in a quick and friendly manner, ensuring our customers receive a highly professional service.

• Maintain attractive presentation and ensure the efficient running of the Café; unpack and stock deliveries; tidy the bakes case and dining area.
• Work the registers in a quick and friendly manner to provide highly professional service.
• Assist as part of a busy café team and master the operational competencies of a Barnes & Noble barista.
• Support the bookfloor team when needed.

• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
• Fill scheduling gaps when able; be flexible and responsive to store needs (open early to late, including weekends and most holidays).
• Be positive, energetic, and reliable; perform tasks with purpose and effort.
• Be supportive and considerate of colleagues; help others and show kindness.
• Be cheerful with customers and consistently help them.
• Show willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge.
• Above all, enjoy being a barista.

• Proficiency with varied technology including registers, computers, tablets, and other tools.
• Develop strong merchandising and visual merchandising skills to maintain café presentation and cleanliness.
• Operate the register quickly and reliably; support receiving and stocking of deliveries.
• Make food and drinks accurately using knowledge, guides, and product information.
• Maintain café cleanliness through daily and weekly tasks.
• Follow FIFO practices and date products correctly.
• Support the bookfloor team when needed and understand loss prevention procedures.

Physical activity includes prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking. You may work in other stores if needed to support the wider cluster.

As you gain experience, your barista knowledge and skills should develop. You may advance toward Senior Barista with opportunities for growth.
