Beautification Division – Parks & Recreation
The City’s Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our Beautification Division. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and enhancing the appearance, safety, and functionality of our parks and public spaces for the community to enjoy.

This position offers a consistent work schedule of 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the possibility of working stand‑by hours as needed.

Functions- Maintains trees and plant life; trims plants and hedges; weeds plant beds; grinds stumps; prunes bushes; cuts and trims trees.
- Sprays herbicides and pesticides; plants trees, bushes, and flowers.
- Operates the riding mower, smaller mowers, saws, edger, weed eater, blower and smaller power tools.
- Removes weeds and debris from working areas, public lands, and other areas.
- Performs regular and routine maintenance, cleaning, repairing and servicing of equipment; reports major equipment problems to the assigned supervisor and delivers equipment for repair.
- Works on a call‑out basis in response to emergencies such as special events, natural disasters, leaks, equipment failures, and other urgency calls.
- Answers citizen and agency representative inquiries; refers more complex questions to the assigned supervisor.
- Occasionally installs and repairs irrigation systems.
- Performs related work as assigned.
High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented with six months of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Physical RequirementsThe employee regularly stands, stoops, kneels, crouches, and crawls. Frequent handling, reaching, and lifting of up to 25 pounds, sometimes up to 50 pounds, are required. The work may involve wet or humid conditions, risk of electrical shock, and moderate noise levels.
MathematicsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds. Ability to perform these operations with units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language AbilityAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
ReasoningAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work EnvironmentThe employee may be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
