Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a SD or compact RN license and strong trauma experience.
Responsibilities- Position is in a busy Emergency Department at a Level 2 trauma center
- Daily census ranges from 150 to 180 patients with a wide variety of acuity levels, including neonates to geriatrics
- Main ED has 33 beds, 8 beds for trauma/resuscitation, and dedicated behavioral health rooms
- Population includes minor to critical patients: sepsis, DKA, respiratory issues, GI bleeds, trauma, stroke, cardiac and pediatric intensive patients
- RN patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:5
- Variable 12-hour shifts are required; schedules may include every weekend and any of these times: , , , , or
- On-call coverage is not required
- Travelers may be asked to float as task nurses to Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU within scope
- EPIC charting system is used; experience with EPIC is preferred
- Duties include patient triage, emergency interventions, trauma and critical care, and evidence collection for sexual assault cases (excluding pelvic exam)
- Support staff includes ED techs, lead techs, phlebotomists, RT, 24/7 MD, hospitalist and NP coverage, radiology, pharmacy tech, and security
- Initial orientation includes 8 hours of facility onboarding, 4 hours of ED-specific education, and at least two 12-hour unit shifts
- Navy scrubs are required
- Holiday coverage may be required if needed
- No requests for time off will be considered during the first 3 weeks of August annually
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Free parking is available on site
- Active SD or compact RN license is required
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications are mandatory
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience excluding travel experience is strongly preferred
- Experience with ESI assessments and triage is required
- Must be comfortable caring for all patient types seen in the ED, including trauma, stroke, and pediatric cases
- Critical thinking, prioritization, and strong communication skills are essential
- Travelers must live more than 100 miles from any Monument facility
- Must not have been employed as permanent staff within the past year
