Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU position working 48-hour weeks, requiring ICU and trauma experience as well as TNCC certification.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a large, mixed adult ICU with MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU beds
  • Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, cardiac, neuro, trauma, and medical cases
  • Primary diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, multiple system trauma, COVID, and post-surgical cases
  • RN-to-patient ratios vary from 1:1 to 1:2, with rare 1:3 assignments based on acuity
  • Cardiac experience and handling CABG/TAVR patients post-op preferred but not required
  • Shift is 12-hour days with a requirement to work 48 hours per week
  • Floating is uncommon but may include adult med/surg and telemetry units
  • EMR used is Epic; experience is required for ICU and ED staff
  • ICU nurses may occasionally float to other adult inpatient areas based on staffing needs
  • Team includes CNAs, mobility float aide, charge nurses, 24/7 RT, resource nurses, and intensivists
  • Required to wear navy scrubs
  • Free parking is available onsite
  • Orientation includes hospital onboarding plus a 12-hour and 8-hour ICU training shift
  • Every other weekend rotation is required but not guaranteed
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • No RTO is allowed during holidays or during the first three weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally)
  • Up to 7 days RTO with extension to complete a 13-week contract
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
Requirements
  • Active RN license in SD or compact state required
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications are required prior to start
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding previous travel positions is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
  • Experience with advanced ICU skills such as ventilator management, hemodynamic lines, vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, proning, and telemetry required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any facility operated by the hiring health system
  • Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
