Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department role requiring a South Dakota or compact RN license and a minimum of two years of recent ED experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital Emergency Department with 33 beds, including 8 trauma/resuscitation beds and 4 behavioral health rooms
- Handles a patient census of 150-180 daily from neonates to geriatric, including high acuity trauma and cardiac cases
- Level 2 trauma center and designated stroke center caring for patients with a broad spectrum of emergencies
- RN patient ratio is typically 1:4-5
- Experience with EPIC charting is preferred
- Variable 12-hour shifts with established block times; may work every weekend depending on staffing needs
- No on-call requirements
- Could float to Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas as a task nurse only, within scope
- Responsibilities include care and prioritization for diverse acuity levels, trauma cases, and evidence collection during sexual assault cases in rotation with staff
- Support includes 24/7 charge nurse, ED techs, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, NP, physician, radiology, pharmacy, and security on the unit
- Orientation includes 8 hours facility and 4 hours ED-specific education, plus at least two 12-hour supervised shifts
- Navy scrubs are required
- Free parking is available
- Holiday coverage may be required as needed
- Time off requests require manager approval; no time off approved in the first 3 weeks of August annually
- First-time travelers are not accepted
- Perm staff must wait one year before returning as travelers
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience, excluding travel assignments, is required
- Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS certifications are mandatory
- Completion of a board-approved nursing education program is required
- Experience with triage (ESI assessments), evidence collection for sexual assault cases, and critical patient care is necessary
- Must reside more than 100 miles from any affiliated facility to be eligible
- EPIC EMR proficiency preferred
