Description:
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a qualified Mechanic to help maintain our vehicle fleet. As a key member of our law enforcement support team, Mechanics play a crucial role in ensuring operations remain safe, reliable, and efficient.
This position is staffed Monday-Friday with very rare after-hour callouts. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid vacation, holiday, and sick leave and participation in the SDRS retirement plan.
Responsibilities- Complete appropriate paperwork of maintenance performed on vehicles and equipment.
- Determine maintenance and service intervals by monitoring vehicle mileage reports, vehicle service records and recalls that may occur.
- Assist in small and large repairs of fleet vehicles and other equipment as time allows (services, tire repairs, brakes, filters, fluid and washes).
- Work with dealerships and repair shops for repairs that are beyond the capability of the PCSO shop.
- Assist with inventory of necessary parts and equipment.
- Weld on parts and equipment as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.

- HS Diploma or GED.
- At least one year of maintenance and minor repair of vehicles.
- Relevant certifications preferred.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid South Dakota Driver’s License within 90 days of moving to South Dakota.
- Work is typically performed in a garage, stockroom and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
- This position may be exposed to high levels of noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals.
- Work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, climb and reach, feel and handle with hands and fingers.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Health insurance and prescription drug coverage through Wellmark (Blue Cross Blue Shield) with two plans: a traditional PPO and a high deductible plan. - Dental: 100% of preventive and diagnostic procedures and 50% of routine and restorative procedures, with a $50 individual/$150 family deductible and $1,000 annual maximum; orthodontics not covered.

Retail and 90-day mail order prescription coverage with copays. - Life Insurance: $20,000 basic life insurance; optional supplemental life insurance available.
