Nooney & Solay, LLP is seeking a capable and motivated Associate Attorney to join our growing practice. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys client-facing work, values precision and organization, and is interested in developing long‑term expertise in estate planning, probate and trust administration, and real estate and business transactions.
The Associate Attorney will work closely with firm partners and staff in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment while managing matters from intake through completion.
Key Responsibilities Estate Planning- Draft estate planning documents including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, and related instruments
- Meet directly with clients to assess goals, explain legal options, and provide tailored estate‑planning strategies
- Review and update existing estate plans as client needs change
- Administer probate estates and trusts from opening through final distribution
- Prepare and file court pleadings, inventories, accountings, and related documentation
- Communicate with beneficiaries, fiduciaries, courts, and opposing counsel as needed
- Ensure compliance with statutory deadlines and fiduciary obligations
- Draft and review purchase and sale agreements, leases, deeds, and closing documents
- Assist with business formation, contracts, and transactional matters
- Coordinate with lenders, title companies, and other professionals to facilitate closings
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, correspondence, and transactional documents
- Manage case files, deadlines, and client communications efficiently
- Collaborate with partners and support staff to ensure high‑quality legal service
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold ethical standards at all times
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in the State of South Dakota or ability/willingness to become licensed in South Dakota
- Experience or strong interest in estate planning, probate, trust administration, and transactional work
- Strong drafting, analytical, and legal research skills
- Excellent communication and client service skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
- Law firm experience preferred, but not required for well‑qualified candidates
