Occupational Therapist
Oyate Health Center is an outpatient ambulatory clinic with a full range of services that serves approximately 22,000 Native Americans. The primary purpose of this role is direct patient-care with adults and/or pediatrics to maximize functional abilities. The Occupational Therapist independently develops and implements treatment programs, using judgment to modify care in response to changing medical conditions.
Essential Functions- High professional competence in assessment, planning and execution of treatment modalities, patient education, and discharge planning for a variety of outpatient situations.
- Application of occupational therapy concepts, principles, and practices for treatment or prevention of disability or disease.
- Evaluation and treatment including expanded functional exercise programs, assistive technology, orthotic and prosthetic training, and management.
- Address pain control, restoring function, meaningful activity, daily living skills, mobility issues, fitness and strength, balance, coordination, cognitive function, adaptive equipment, etc.
- Direct assistants and technicians; coordinate care and ensure quality patient care.
- Consult with medical or clinical staff regarding therapy and patient progress.
- Assist supervisor and staff with rehabilitation administrative tasks and projects.
- Participate in clinical research and specialty clinics.
- Use personal computer and job‑related software; manage Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Engage in quality assurance/performance improvement activities and chart reviews.
- Provide formal and informal education, in‑services to medical staff and therapy team, and training for therapy students and technicians.
- Mentor students on chart review, presentations, and treatment techniques.
- Doctorate in Occupational Therapy or Master’s with 5 years of clinical experience; or Bachelor’s with 7 years of clinical experience.
- Current unrestricted state licensure to practice in any US state or territory.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care providers.
Advanced board certification is preferred but not required.
The GPTLHB is a tribal organization that follows tribal preference laws. Preference will be given to qualified Indian/Tribal candidates over qualified non‑native candidates when all other qualifications are equal.
