Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for directing and providing physical therapy evaluation and treatment, education, and consultation for the program to improve the health and wellbeing of patient relatives through the prevention and treatment of disease, disability and injury. The position requires the ability to work with great autonomy, balance activities, organize work, set priorities and delegate tasks, meet deadlines, analyze organizational problems, and develop and implement effective solutions.

Oyate Health Center is an outpatient ambulatory clinic with a full range of services that provides for a population of approximately 22,000 Native Americans.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for a high degree of professional competence, skill and judgment in assessment, planning and carrying out the full range of treatment modalities, patient relative education and discharge planning of a variety of outpatient situations. Treatment objectives range from routine to complex and procedures involve application of highly specialized skills and knowledge.
  • Provides technical supervision and input for performance plans and performance ratings for technicians and PTA(s).
  • Provides consultation to medical or clinical staff on matters pertaining to physical therapy and/or patient relative progress. Incumbent exercises tact, good judgment and persuasiveness when dealing with these individuals.
  • The employee may have the authority to act for the department head in his/her absence. Assists the supervisor and staff in all aspects of rehabilitation services, administrative tasks, and projects as assigned.
  • Participates in the organization, planning, and execution of specialty programs/clinics and research efforts to meet the needs of the patient relatives and department.
  • Demonstrates competency and skill in the use of personal computers and a variety of job-related software applications. Appropriately utilizes and manages the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to community members, consumers and other employees of the organization.
  • Proficiency with computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other Internet technologies.
  • Valid driver’s license must be kept current, and certificates, credentials or licenses must be kept current and consistent with regulations required by applicable federal, state and/or grant regulations.

Education/Experience/Certificates/Credentials

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced clinical professional position requiring post-secondary education and/or considerable experience.
  • Doctorate degree from a CAPTE accredited school of Physical Therapy.

OR

  • Master’s degree from a CAPTE accredited school of Physical Therapy with five (5) years of work experience.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check, and a pre-employment drug screen.
