PATIENT OBSERVATION ASSISTANT (FULL TIME)
We are hiring immediately for a full‑time PATIENT OBSERVATION ASSISTANT position at Monument Health, 353 Fairmont Boulevard, Rapid City, SD 57701. Online applications accepted only. Job SummaryProvides visual and audible observation of assigned patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse and unit manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Visually and audibly monitor the assigned patient's condition and behavior at all times.
- Complete observation reports at established intervals.
- Render compassionate service and respond to patient needs, interacting hospitably, cheerfully, and supportively with staff, patients, visitors and colleagues.
- Remain at the bedside of the assigned patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
- Verbally redirect patients from engaging in at‑risk behaviors.
- Seek help or advice promptly when a patient appears medically distressed or poses a threat, escalating to medical professionals.
- Participate in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues; ensure the environment is safe and report hazards.
- Assist in calming and/or reorienting patients during agitation or confusion.
- Help keep the patient's room safe and orderly.
- Accompany patients for diagnostic testing as required.
- Summon nursing staff immediately if the patient requires assistance, control, or other interventions, or exhibits unusual behavior.
- Participate in hand‑off of pertinent information upon arriving on unit and upon shift completion; arrange coverage around meal breaks with nurses.
- Assist with ordering dietary trays and basic positioning; aid with wheelchair rides and ambulation when appropriate.
- Respond rapidly to emergencies, special needs, etc.
- Accept suggestions and direction from supervisors and hospital staff.
- Demonstrate knowledge of department policies and procedures; honor attendance, break, behavior, dress, hygiene, and safety codes.
- Respect confidentiality and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the department and hospital education program.
- Assist other associates as necessary; respond to direction as provided.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Current CPR AED or Basic Life Support (BLS‑HCP) certification required within 30 days of hire, if required at the facility.
- Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; required to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- One to two years of previous experience is preferred.
