The City is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join the Public Works Department as a Engineering Assistant in the Civil Engineering Division. This position supports the City’s commitment to Accountability, Empowerment, Innovation, and Ownership while helping shape safe, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure for the community.
This is a technical support position with varied duties that contribute directly to the proper development and maintenance of the City’s roadways and stormwater utility systems
. The Engineering Assistant plays an important role in reviewing new development projects to ensure compliance with local and state codes, standards, and engineering best practices.
The ideal candidate demonstrates accountability through accurate technical review and documentation, takes ownership of assigned projects and responsibilities, and is empowered to collaborate with engineers, developers, and other stakeholders. A willingness to embrace innovative solutions to improve processes and infrastructure outcomes is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities- Providing technical and administrative support to the Engineering Division
- Assisting with the review of roadway, drainage, and stormwater plans
- Ensuring development projects comply with City standards and state regulations
- Supporting infrastructure planning, inspections, and project documentation
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver quality results
This position is part of the Public Works Department and supports the City’s long‑term infrastructure and environmental goals.
Work ScheduleMonday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Core Functions- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Reads and reviews specifications, plans, drawings, and maps for compliance with adopted codes, standards, and regulations.
- Informs the City Engineer of violations, instances of noncompliance of specifications, plans, drawings, and maps with adopted codes, standards, and regulations.
- Corrects violations or pending violations of the Land Development Code and the Florida Department of Transportation regulations through recommendations for engineering changes.
- Assists the City Engineer in construction inspections and administration.
- Evaluates product specifications against standards and code requirements.
- Develops and drafts language of performance standards for inclusion in construction documents and contracts, to comply with City and state standards.
- Provides direction on Capital Improvement Projects; estimating, permitting, purchasing materials, etc.
- Estimates costs of construction.
- Performs specific planning duties assigned by the City Engineer or other staff engineers to assist and support the engineering function.
- Inspects construction activities in the field for compliance with performance standards and design consistency.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by five (5) years of experience in engineering, surveying, drafting, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess and maintain a valid Stormwater Qualified Inspector Training certification or obtain within one (1) year of hire.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
