Position: Mechanical Engineer
Job Type: W2 Full-Time / Onsite
Contract: 24-Month Contract – Option to Convert to Internal
Location: Rapid City, SD (Black Hills Facility)
Pay Rate: $26–$30/hour
Responsible for researching, designing, developing, and testing mechanical products, tools, and systems for construction and mining equipment applications. This role involves early concept design, creating 3D models, performing engineering analyses, and collaborating with drafting teams to produce manufacturing drawings. Candidates should have strong technical skills in parametric modeling and mechanical design, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop early tool concept designs using 3D CAD tools (PTC Creo preferred).
- Collaborate with engineering lead to mature concepts and prepare detailed designs.
- Perform analysis activities such as finite element analysis (FEA), flow analysis, bolted joint analysis, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Work with drafting teams to create preliminary and final drawing releases, ensuring accurate communication of design scope.
- Support proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
- Communicate technical information effectively to team members, other engineering teams, and suppliers.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling design tools (PTC Creo preferred; Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works, or similar acceptable).
- Experience with analysis processes (FEA, stress analysis, fluid/flow analysis, tolerance stack-ups, bolted joint analysis).
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes (fabrication, welding, machining) and tooling is a plus.
- Prior experience operating or servicing heavy equipment (mining, construction, agricultural) is beneficial for design perspective.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Associate’s degree in a related discipline may be considered with relevant experience.
- Master’s degrees are not preferred

- At least 1 year of relevant experience (internship experience accepted).
- Open to recent graduates with relevant mechanical design or manufacturing internshipsli>
- No cap on experience for qualified candidates.
- 3D parametric modeling software experience (Creo, Inventor, Solid Works).
- Application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) –
critical for tolerance stack-ups and drafting collaboration
. - Mechanical print reading and/or drafting experience.
Desired:
- Analytical/simulation tools experience (FEA, bolted joint analysis, tolerance stack-ups).
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Good organizational and time management practices.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Start Date: February 16, 2026
- Duration: 24 months
- Schedule: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (Mon–Fri)
- Remote: 100% Onsite
- Travel: None
