The Hospitalist Physician provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to hospitalized patients. This role focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute medical conditions and exacerbations of chronic disease, coordination of multidisciplinary care, and facilitation of safe transitions of care using evidence-based, patient-centered practices.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide direct inpatient care for hospitalized patients
Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and daily patient assessments
Diagnose and manage acute illnesses and complications of chronic medical conditions
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
Manage patient admissions, daily rounding, and discharges
Respond to changes in patient condition, including urgent and emergent clinical issues
Coordinate care with consulting specialists, nursing staff, case management, and ancillary services
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care coordination meetings
Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
Ensure safe transitions of care and appropriate outpatient follow-up
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and utilization management initiatives
Supervise and educate residents, medical students, or advanced practice providers as applicable
Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency program
Board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
DEA registration or eligibility
Strong inpatient clinical assessment and decision-making skills
Ability to manage complex, acutely ill patients
Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
Strong organizational and documentation abilities
Commitment to evidence-based, high-quality patient care
Acute care hospital inpatient units
Schedule may include day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts depending on program structure
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout hospital units
Manual dexterity for bedside assessments and procedures
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient evaluation and communication
