LINCOLN'S CHALLENGE ACADEMY EMPLOYEE

HOURS:

8 Hours daily - Between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Can vary based on mission requirements

SCHEDULE:

Must work until 7:00 pm one night a week

Must work one weekend a month

Responsibilities
  • Performs routine interior maintenance of facility; repairs leaking faucets, shower heads, clogged toilets and other small plumbing tasks; repairs, paints and refinishes furniture, fixtures and performs other small painting tasks; replaces light bulbs, as needed and performs other small electrical tasks, i.e., repairs ballasts, switches, receptacles, appliance cords, and motor fans; repairs and replaces broken window screens, doors, roofs, gutters and other small carpenter tasks.

    Recommends contract repair when repair is beyond in-house capabilities.
  • Receives facility work order requests approved by the Facilities Supervisor identifying maintenance requirements. Updates Facilities Manager upon completion of job. Interprets blueprints of facilities and operational systems. Performs routine ground maintenance of facility; mows lawns with push and/or riding mower, trims trees and rakes leaves, trims weeds and cares for landscaping, sweeps and cleans walks and parking lots, pick up and hauls away litter and debris, removes snow from walks and parking lots with shovel, snow blower and/or snow plow, and generally keeps the outside premises neat and orderly.
  • Load and unloads trucks; moves office furniture; carries moderate to heavy items on a recurring basis; assists in transporting vehicles to state repair facility when required. Repairs roadways, and sidewalks; performs road construction and fill operations.
  • Stores and keeps inventory of supplies and equipment. Notifies supervisor when inventory is low; aids in preventive maintenance tasks including painting, carpentry, repairing doors/locks, and installing miscellaneous hardware. Performs minor plumbing repairs, troubleshoots electrical problems, and performs minor electrical repairs. Operates government motor vehicle to transport maintenance supplies and equipment to various on-site locations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires the knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • One year of experience in performing a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks in the maintenance of vehicles, buildings, and/or grounds is desirable.
  • Employment Conditions
    • Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation.
    • Requires a valid driver’s license in the appropriate classification as required by law.
    • Required to work a flex work schedule including weekends and evenings when necessary to meet agency needs.
    • This position is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing or involves sitting most of the time.
    • Requires a Substitute Teaching Certificate recognized by the State of Illinois.
