Overview

Assistant Director
- National Autism Center
May Institute | Randolph, MA

The National Autism Center (NAC), the research and dissemination arm of May Institute, is nationally recognized for advancing evidence-based practice and improving outcomes for individuals with autism across the lifespan. NAC leads the development, evaluation, and dissemination of research-informed training, resources, and guidance for professionals, organizations, and the public.

The Assistant Director of the National Autism Center is a senior, execution-focused role that partners closely with the Director to advance NAC’s strategic priorities. This position is responsible for leading training development, research and content initiatives, and external dissemination efforts. While the Director provides vision and strategy, the Assistant Director drives execution—ensuring high-quality deliverables, adherence to timelines, and alignment with NAC’s mission and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Training, Content & Research Execution
    • Review existing NAC training materials and determine what can be leveraged, updated, or retired
    • Standardize NAC training offerings and build upon established frameworks
    • Design, develop, and deliver evidence-based trainings related to autism across the lifespan
    • Conduct, support, and advance autism-related research projects, including grant-funded initiatives
    • Translate research findings into clear, practical, and compassionate training and dissemination materials
  • Dissemination & External Engagement
    • Support dissemination of NAC work internally across May Institute, to the public, and to external organizations
    • Collaborate with philanthropy and leadership to review, evaluate, and support grant opportunities and reporting requirements
    • Deliver content on defined deadlines aligned with grant deliverables and NAC strategic goals
    • Represent NAC in trainings, presentations, and external-facing engagements as assigned
  • Program & Project Management
    • Manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines and priorities
    • Apply strong project management practices to ensure timely, high-quality execution of work
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical teams, communications/PR, executive leadership, legal, and other May Institute departments
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Lead through influence rather than authority, fostering strong working relationships across teams
    • Provide mentorship, guidance, and informal leadership to colleagues and collaborators
    • Communicate with compassion, professionalism, and scientific rigor, particularly on sensitive topics impacting individuals and families
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required; BCBA required at minimum
  • PhD and licensure as a psychologist strongly preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing services to individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering group trainings
  • Experience conducting and advancing autism-related research
  • Prior leadership or project management experience; prior direct people management preferred but not required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage scope, and execute with minimal oversight
