Overview
Northwest Hospital’s main operating room (Main OR) provides innovative surgical services on both inpatient and outpatient bases. The suite includes a new pre‑ and post‑operative area, five operating rooms, one cystoscopy suite and a new endoscopy suite, caring for approximately 480 surgical patients per month. Staff follow Association of Peri Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) and American Society of Peri Anesthesia Nursing Practice (ASPAN) standards of care, employing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status and implement clinical interventions.
Job SummaryAs a member of the surgical team, the Surgical Technician provides technical assistance to the surgeon/physician during procedures under RN supervision within the Surgical Services department. When not directly assisting in a procedure, the technician participates in patient care under the direction of the Surgical Assistant Coordinator or Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities- Assist the surgeon/physician during surgical interventions.
- Support the surgical team in patient care under RN or Coordinator direction.
- Maintain surgical supplies and instruments to ensure readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms and support patient care.
- Formal working knowledge equivalent to an Associate’s degree (2 years of college); specialized field knowledge required.
- Pass the certifying examination administered by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist (must be completed within 12 months).
- 1‑3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Certifications:
Surgical Technologist Certification or Certificate of completion of an accredited course;
American Heart Association CPR Certification.
