Job Summary

Pet Smart’s Store Leader oversees the safety of people and pets, enhances the pet parent experience, ensures operational excellence, manages financial outcomes, and handles human resources within the store. This role provides exemplary leadership by fostering the company culture and strategies, achieving targeted results, championing exceptional pet parent service, and ensuring efficient daily store operations while upholding the company’s vision, mission, and values.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

People Leadership:
  • Employment decisions: recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and terminating.
  • Fostering an open-door culture by engaging with associates and responding to feedback.
  • Creating and posting schedules based on input from leadership.
  • Supporting associate development through reviews, recognition, training, onboarding, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Delegating effectively and empowering team members.
  • Communicating store priorities and responding to environmental changes.
  • Addressing employee concerns and recognizing engagement efforts.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of associate reviews.
Overall Store

Experience:
  • Leading the associate and pet parent experience, ensuring safety and health of pets.
  • Managing pet parent interactions and resolving concerns.
  • Creating a positive store environment focused on exceptional service.
  • Evaluating and improving store operations and community engagement.
  • Maintaining store standards and compliance with policies and ethics.
  • Conducting regular safety and policy audits.
  • Prioritizing safety and inventory management.
  • Communicating business and financial goals.
  • Monitoring safety practices via store cameras and taking corrective actions.
  • Responding promptly to health issues of pets in the store.
  • Supporting opening and closing procedures to uphold brand standards.
Business Management:
  • Executing corporate strategies and profitability goals.
  • Analyzing store reports, identifying root causes, and implementing improvements.
  • Driving business growth and achieving sales and shrink targets.
  • Managing expenses and leveraging resources for store needs.
  • Creating schedules, managing payroll, and reporting.
  • Supporting store operations through errands and administrative tasks.
Qualifications:
  • 4-6 years retail leadership or customer-focused experience.
  • Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and maintain composure.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Supervisory Responsibility:

Supervises Experience Leader, Process Leader, up to six lead associates, and 10-70 non-leader associates, following company policies and procedures.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, handling objects, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, hearing, and vision capabilities. May involve lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and more occasionally. Exposure to mechanical parts, pet hair, and animal handling is common. Moderate noise levels, with occasional high noise exposure.
