Contract Radiation Therapist - Rancho Mirage About the Job

The radiation therapist follows the prescription plan and delivers radiation therapy to the patients as ordered by the physician. Working collaboratively with the front office staff, the radiation oncology nurse, the physicists and dosimetrist, the primary purpose of this job is to ensure every patient is given accurate, precise, and high quality treatment in an emotionally healing environment. The therapist is responsible for providing support as appropriate in all aspects of the treatment of the patient ensuring a smooth transition from each phase of the treatment process.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Deliver accurate radiation therapy treatments with high technical quality using proper set-up and calculation parameters.
  • Responsible for processing and subsequent filming of orthogonal/port films prescribed by physician, obtaining port films in accordance with the department portal vision protocols.
  • Maintain and update scheduling for new patients and current treatment times, simulations, conedowns, offcord treatments, etc. Notify appropriate team members related to changes or questions.
  • Utilize proper safety procedures, body mechanics and lifting techniques when dealing with patients and equipment, reporting any malfunctions and safety incidents to director or lead therapist immediately. Ask for help when needed.
  • Simulate patients and design custom blockings. Selection and correct placement of immobilization devices, customized blocks and optimize patient comfort in a manner that can be reproduced each time.
  • Perform calculations utilizing computer to assure accuracy.
  • Maintain appropriate charges for radiation therapy.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area (i.e., stocks supplies and linen in rooms when needed, disinfects used equipment frequently, utilizes all down time as needs arise). (Asks lead, team members and /or Director if they can help). Demonstrates good time management.
  • Daily Q.A. of treatment machines, simulator, and CT scanner to obtain expected values and reports any deviation to physicist immediately.
  • Makes team effort to chart, check, file, stock rooms, check for supplies and is sensitive to and willing to flex out when needed.
  • Identifies and shares with Director/co-workers opportunities for improving patient and guest satisfaction.
  • Attends weekly chart rounds and actively participates when appropriate.
Skills
  • Knowledge of therapy equipment (linear accelerators/information systems), preferably Varian, HDR, CT, simulators, computer literate.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to create and maintain a healing experience through sensitivity to patient needs, in addition to being able to provide the appropriate clinical treatment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and under the clinical guidance of the Radiation Oncologists.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to improving the quality of care for our patients, including sharing ideas with staff, supervisors and physicians.
Required Qualifications
  • ARRT Registered AHA BLS CRT within 90 days
  • Knowledge of therapy equipment (linear accelerators/information systems), preferably Varian, HDR, CT, simulators, computer literate.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to create and maintain a healing experience through sensitivity to patient needs, in addition to being able to provide the appropriate clinical treatment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and under the clinical guidance of the Radiation Oncologists.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to improving the quality of care for our patients, including sharing ideas with staff, supervisors and physicians.
  • Able to lift 40 pounds from floor to waist and waist to shoulder.
  • Able to lift 25 pounds from shoulder to overhead.
  • Able to push/pull one hundred and fifty pounds.
  • Be able to frequently bend and reach when providing care or moving equipment/supplies.
  • Repetitive standing, walking and use of hands.
  • Average vision/hearing.
  • Preferred: 1-3 years direct experience and experience in treating acute patients
Education
  • Required:

    2 years Diagnostic School Program +1 year experience
  • Preferred:
    Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program
  • A.R.R.T. Registered, CA State Certificate (CRT), American Heart Association BLS
Citizenship / Work Permit / Visa Status

US Citizen / Green Card holder
