Position Description

This is a full-time, tenure-track Instructional Specialist position focused on the Health and Wellness and/or the Business, Technology, and Hospitality Academic and Career Communities.

The assignment provides a full professional service week throughout the 196-day academic calendar. The Rancho campus is the primary location, with potential instruction at Chino and Fontana campuses. Chaffey College aims for high outcomes for all students. Successful candidates will share our vision and contribute to continuous improvement and student achievement. The college emphasizes faculty involvement in governance processes and ongoing professional learning.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support in a manner consistent with the District's standards and in accordance with the approved course outlines of record.
  • Facilitate the activities of the Success Center.
  • Recruit, train, and recommend the hiring of tutors.
  • Provide for the delivery of tutorial and supplemental learning services.
  • Evaluate the need and suitability of instructional materials, software, handouts, and media associated with the Center in conjunction with other faculty.
  • Assist faculty in developing diverse strategies and services that support student success and retention.
  • Help faculty in related disciplines to develop course-support materials for use in the Success Center.
  • Develop and maintain culturally-sensitive and equity-minded learning environments.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff as they relate to equity-minded practice.
  • Provide a safe and positive educational environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Provide instruction and student support in varied formats and deliveries (online, in-person, hybrid, hyflex, fast-track, accelerated, etc.).
  • Maintain current knowledge in the discipline and engage in innovative methods of effective in-person and online education.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards and use effective educational techniques to promote learning and achievement.
  • Participate in department and community meetings, governance, program design and development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and related duties for the benefit of students, the college, and the profession.
  • Engage students to promote critical thinking, collaboration, and empathy.
  • Participate in professional development, seminars, mentoring, club advising, committees, and academic and career communities.
  • Day, evening, and/or weekend assignments at any College campus may be part of the regular contract.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any master's level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed; OR
  • A master's degree in education, educational psychology, instructional psychology, or other master's degree with emphasis in adult learning theory; OR
  • The equivalent (equivalency questions are included in the Faculty Application for Employment).
  • Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of diverse backgrounds in a community college environment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of recent teaching experience in a related discipline.
  • Teaching experience in a variety of formats and deliveries (online, in-person, hybrid, hyflex, fast-track, accelerated, etc.).
