Overview

Chaffey College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Physical Therapy Assistant instructor in the Health and Wellness Academic and Career Community. The assignment provides a full professional service week throughout the 196-day academic calendar. The position is based at the Fontana campus with possible assignments at Rancho Cucamonga and Chino campuses. The duties include teaching, service, and leadership responsibilities under the direction of the Dean.

Position Description

MUST POSSESS ABILITY TO SERVE AS CLINICAL DIRECTOR OF THE PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT PROGRAM.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in a manner consistent with the District's standards and with approved course outlines of record.
  • Develop and maintain culturally-sensitive and equity-minded learning environments.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and understanding of diverse backgrounds in relation to equity-minded practice.
  • Provide a safe and positive educational environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Deliver instruction and student support in online, in-person, hybrid, hyflex, fast-track, accelerated formats, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the discipline and employ innovative methods for in-person and online education.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards and use effective educational techniques to promote learning and achievement.
  • Participate in department and college meetings, curriculum and program design, assessment of student learning outcomes, community outreach, and related duties for the benefit of students and the college.
  • Engage students, promote critical thinking, collaboration, and empathy.
  • Participate in professional development, seminars, mentoring, council work, and related activities; day, evening, and/or weekend assignments at College campuses may be part of the regular contract.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution AND six (6) years of related experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution AND two (2) years of related experience; OR
  • Possession of a valid California Community College credential authorizing service as an instructor in Physical Therapy Assisting; OR
  • Equivalent qualifications as defined by the Faculty Application for Employment; AND
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse backgrounds in a community college environment.

Program-Specific Required Qualifications

  • Active, unencumbered Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license in any U.S. jurisdiction, in compliance with the California practice act.
  • Master's degree or higher in physical therapy, health sciences, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical experience, including at least three (3) years of direct patient care.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Clinical Instructor (CI) and/or Site Coordinator of Clinical Education (SCCE) or in teaching, curriculum development, and administration within a PTA education program.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and professional judgment skills appropriate for academic and clinical education leadership.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Two years of recent teaching experience in a related discipline.
  • Experience with online, in-person, hybrid, hyflex, fast-track, accelerated formats.
  • Commitment to culturally-responsive instruction and equity-based student support.
  • Experience supporting students on diverse academic pathways and populations, including those in the College's Equity Plan.
  • Experience using ZTC/OER materials and/or willingness to adopt them.
  • Experience as a Director of Clinical Education, ACCE, SCCE, or core faculty in a CAPTE-accredited PTA or PT program.
  • Professional development in educational theory, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcomes assessment.
  • Familiarity with CAPTE accreditation standards, clinical education compliance, and academic program administration.
  • Interest in academic leadership and potential progression to Program Director.
Conditions of Employment
