Instructor, Chemistry

Chaffey College is seeking a full-time, tenure‑track Chemistry instructor to serve the Rancho Cucamonga campus, with possible teaching at the Chino and Fontana campuses. The position is part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academic and Career Community.

Salary and Employment

Salary range: $81,908 – $119,043 annual, based on qualifications and experience. Job type:

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in accordance with district standards and approved course outlines.
  • Develop and maintain culturally‑sensitive, equity‑minded learning environments.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Offer safe, positive educational environments conducive to effective learning.
  • Support students in a variety of formats—online, in‑person, hybrid, hyflex, fast‑track, accelerated, etc.
  • Maintain current discipline knowledge and engage in innovative teaching methods.
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards.
  • Employ effective educational techniques to promote learning and achievement.
  • Participate in department, school, community meetings, curriculum design and development, student learning outcomes assessment, community outreach, and related duties.
  • Encourage student development of critical thinking, collaboration, and empathy.
  • Engage in professional development, mentoring, committee work, and community outreach activities.
  • Accept day, evening, and/or weekend assignments at any of the College campuses as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in chemistry; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry AND a Master's in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry; OR
  • Valid lifetime California Community College credential authorizing service as a chemistry instructor; OR
  • Equivalency meeting faculty credential requirements (details in Faculty Application).
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Organizational and computer expertise, including classroom technology usage.
  • Two years of recent teaching experience in a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching online, in‑person, hybrid, hyflex, fast‑track, accelerated formats.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive instruction and equity‑based efforts.
  • Commitment to supporting students across all academic pathways.
  • Experience with student populations outlined in Chaffey College Equity Plan.
  • Experience using ZTC/OER materials or willingness to do so.
  • Recent experience (last 5 years) teaching lecture and laboratory courses comparable to those offered at Chaffey College.
  • Knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and laboratory protocols.
  • Cooperative, organizational skill in managing laboratory classrooms.
Additional Information

Conditions of Employment

Initial salary placement ranges from $81,908 (minimum qualifications) to $119,043 (doctorate). Placement depends on verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.

Essential functions include on‑site work at a Chaffey facility and in‑person interaction with students and staff.
