Position OverviewFerreira Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator – Fence & Guardrail to support our Southern California operations from our Rancho Cucamonga office. This role is responsible for the full estimating lifecycle of fencing and guardrail projects, including conceptual estimating, bid development, final submission, and detailed turnover to project management. The ideal candidate brings strong estimating fundamentals, discipline‑specific knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple bids in a deadline‑driven public works environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, manage, and submit competitive fence and guardrail construction bids
- Lead the estimating process from initial review through final bid submission
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents for scope, quantities, risk, and constructability
- Attend pre‑bid meetings, site walks, and design review meetings
- Develop crew structures, production rates, and installation methodologies
- Obtain, evaluate, and analyze material pricing and subcontractor quotes
- Identify, qualify, and coordinate with subcontractors and vendors for assigned scopes of work
- Communicate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure pricing aligns with bid documents and project requirements
- Collaborate with engineering teams and clients to provide feedback on estimates, costs, and best practices
- Assist senior estimating leadership in delivering complete, accurate, and high‑quality bids
- Maintain organized bid files and ensure all documents are properly saved in shared drives
- Update and maintain bid schedules and pursuit tracking
- Coordinate detailed turnover meetings with project management teams upon award
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and standards
- Minimum 5+ years of construction estimating experience
- Direct experience with fencing and/or guardrail construction preferred
- Knowledge of public works construction practices in Southern California
- Ability to manage multiple bids while meeting strict deadlines
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining accurate bid documentation
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction drawings and specifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients at all levels - Self‑motivated, driven, and results‑oriented, with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment
- Estimating Software:
HCSS Heavy Bid and/or B2W (preferred, not required) - Microsoft Office Suite:
Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, One Note - Strong Excel skills for quantity takeoffs, pricing analysis, and bid summaries
