Hydraulic Structures Engineer
Position:
Staff Hydraulic Structures Engineer at Black & Veatch Corporation.

Opportunity- Lead hydraulic structure projects for hydropower clients in the Northwest, West Coast and Southwest United States.
- Manage and mentor junior staff while building an execution team capable of delivering diverse, multi‑disciplinary design projects.
- Collaborate with subject‑matter experts across disciplines to deliver high‑quality design products and technical analyses.
- Participate in equipment procurement and construction management processes and support business development activities.
- Communicate and collaborate with client counterparts to develop technical solutions from concept to closeout.
- Translate client direction into efficient work plans and coordinate project team members to deliver high‑quality deliverables.
- Develop written technical documents, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and alternative analyses.
- Apply design guides, standards, and engineering codes relevant to the hydropower industry.
- Leverage general engineering principles—including hydraulics, civil/structural design, geotechnical considerations, and mechanical systems—to generate unique, engineered solutions.
- Prepare and oversee calculations and design documents.
- Participate in equipment procurement and construction management processes.
- Manage and mentor junior engineers.
- Provide support to business development teams for pursuit activities and lead projects that you pursue and acquire.
- Experience with West Coast hydropower clients.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Business.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulatory requirements for dams and hydropower clients.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks and drug screening.
- Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for Black & Veatch projects in applicable countries.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days.
- Typical office and construction environments with exposure to extreme weather, high noise, safety hazards and chemical substances.
- Physical demands include sitting, walking, standing, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
Registered Engineering (REG) compensation: $ – $ per year.
