Environmental Planner – Department Manager
Dewberry is currently seeking an experienced environmental planner to serve as Department Manager for our environmental group in our Rancho Cordova, CA office. This is an excellent career opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to join and lead our team of outstanding professionals. The successful candidate will have technical, project management, and marketing responsibilities to lead environmental projects in a variety of markets.
Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience supervising and mentoring staff and leading teams. Personnel with a background in CEQA/NEPA clearance for transportation projects, especially with the Caltrans process, are highly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities- Lead or direct multi-faceted planning projects in collaboration with scientists, engineers and other specialists on larger and more complex projects.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of project management principles and practices and be responsible for the development of environmental compliance and planning documents in accordance with applicable guidelines and requirements, while delivering assignments within budget and schedule.
- Serve as a planning specialist, preparing and managing complex environmental analyses and coordinating with key team members, including senior staff, subconsultants, and clients.
- Oversee and produce high quality technical work products.
- Lead the preparation of proposals for mid-sized projects and assist with proposals for larger projects, providing technical input, contributing to proposal writing, identifying opportunities, and engaging with proposal/interview teams. These efforts will include having the responsibility for preparing scopes of work and budgets.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, including reviewing their work for accuracy and clarity and providing constructive feedback and career development guidance.
- Manage workload, task prioritization, and project progress; regularly interact with internal and external clients.
- B.S. Degree in Environmental Policy or related field
- M.S. degree in Environmental Policy or related field (preferred).
- 10+ years experience with progressive responsibilities providing environmental services on a variety of projects.
- Ability to travel.
- Proficiency in project management and marketing experience.
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Comfortable working on multiple project assignments concurrently.
- Capability to work and interact with clients, maintain project budgets and schedules.
- Ability to provide environmental technical expertise to design staff.
- Desire and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet accelerated deadlines.
- Possess strong technical writing and editing skills.
- Firm understanding of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
- Firm understanding of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
- Experience with Caltrans and FHWA a plus.

The projected range for this position is $168,000-$195,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
