Job Description
The City of Raleigh is seeking a reliable and skilled Equipment Operator to join our Concrete Operations team. This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, waste removal, and equipment operation duties that support the City’s infrastructure and operational functions.

The Divisions within Transportation Maintenance are responsible for sidewalk maintenance, curb and gutter maintenance, asphalt maintenance, storm sewer maintenance, right of way mowing, downtown cleaning, resurfacing and pavement preservation, bridge maintenance and private development/utility inspections. The 218 person staff maintains over 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks, over 33,000 curb ramps, 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes and over 32,000 drainage inlets.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Operating dump truck to haul crews, supplies and equipment to job sites
- Assisting with concrete repairs including setup and finishing
- Operating dump truck with leaf machine attachment during leaf collection season
- Using snow removal equipment to operate the dump truck during inclement weather
- This role is required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency;
Less than 1 year experience in light to medium construction equipment operation or related work OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Work Environment and Physical Effort:
Very Heavy:
Exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, street environment (near moving traffic), at a construction site and in a vehicle. Employees may occasionally be in confined spaces, and warehouse or shop environments.
Work Exposures:
There is frequent exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles and loud noises. Employees may occasionally interact with individuals who are hostile or irate and communicable diseases.
