Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join our Flood Risk Solutions team. This role is ideal for a developer who enjoys tackling complex technical challenges and wants to build software that strengthens community resilience and advances environmental stewardship. This position is based out of our Raleigh, NC office, with the option to be remote.
You will design, develop, and deliver high‑impact geospatial and water‑resources applications used by clients across the country. Our projects are diverse, technically challenging, and deeply meaningful – your work will help shape safer, more sustainable places for people to live and work.

What you’ll do- Work in an Agile software development environment to design, code, test, debug, document, and deploy software applications
- Build production‑ready cloud and desktop applications that deliver advanced geospatial, analytical, and modeling capabilities
- Translate business and system requirements into scalable, maintainable software designs.
- Learn and apply concepts in water-resources engineering, including flood modeling and mapping workflows
- Develop automated unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure long‑term code quality and maintainability
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams – including civil engineers, GIS specialists, and project managers – to define technical approaches and deliver high‑value solutions
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement of software development practices
Minimum Requirements
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited university +4+ years of relevant software development experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: C#, C++, or C, with a strong grasp of language‑specific best practices
- Experience working with relational databases, particularly Microsoft SQL Server, including schema design and query optimization
- Hands‑on experience deploying and managing applications in AWS or Azure cloud environments.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, Git Hub, or Azure Dev Ops, including branching strategies and collaborative workflows
- Strong understanding of object‑oriented design and programming principles
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required
- MS degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited university
- Strong knowledge of cloud‑native architecture, security best practices, and IAM
- Proficiency in Python for cloud automation, scripting, and integration with cloud services
- Hands‑on experience with Dev Ops workflows, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and configuration management
