AWS/Java/ETL Developer, DHHS-ITD is looking to hire an AWS/Java developer with 8–10 years of software development experience. This role involves close collaboration with the data modernization teams at ITD and DPH to design, implement, and manage AWS solutions that align with their technical requirements and business objectives.

• Experience in modernizing legacy applications, including refactoring/migrating in‑house legacy applications to the cloud environment.
• Proficient in utilizing AWS services and related components to build enterprise‑level Data Lakes.
• Hands‑on software development with Java (strong Java, J2EE, Java Spring framework & Hibernate technology).
• Experience working with transactional or RDBMS databases.
• Experience with Dev Ops practices and automation tools.
• SQL – writing complex queries, understanding database relationships, debugging and performance tuning.
• ETL tools – hands‑on experience with cloud‑based ETL tools.
• Understanding of data modeling.
• Knowledge of ETL tools and experience with data analytics using Power
  
  BI or AWS Quick Sight.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum framework environments.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and propose effective modernization strategies.
• Design, develop, and test Java‑based, cloud‑native applications and backend systems.
• Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines.
• Analyze data models and business requirements.
• Data validation: query the database to verify that data is correctly inserted, updated, and deleted by the application, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
• Design, create, and execute test cases.
• Back‑end testing: validate back‑end logic and data processing that might not be immediately visible through the user interface.
• Collaborate with developers and business analysts to understand data requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
• Utilize AWS services within application architecture.
• Develop, test, debug, and deliver within timeline using best tools and practices.
• Participate in code reviews, ensure security best practices, and maintain clean, efficient code.
• Monitor application performance and optimize for cost, security, and reliability.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues and challenges.
• Ensure adherence to standards and best practices.
• Work with product managers, business stakeholders, and other team members to refine requirements and deliver solutions.

• Proficient in using various AWS services (e.g., VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, Athena) to build and manage cloud – required 5 years.
• Experience in software development with Java, J2EE, Spring framework & Hibernate – required 7 years.
• Experience modernizing applications, including refactoring, migration, and cloud‑native development – required 5 years.
• Knowledge of modern database technologies and strategies for migrating and modernizing database systems – required 5 years.
• Experience with Dev Ops practices and automation tools – required 5 years.
• Experience with data analytics, business intelligence solutions (Power BI or AWS Quick Sight) – nice to have 2 years.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross‑functional teams – required 7 years.
• Experience constructing AWS ETL jobs, data pipelines with high volumes – required 3 years.
• AWS certification – nice to have.
• State government experience – nice to have.
