AWS/Java Developer
DHHS-ITD is seeking an AWS/Java developer specializing in data modernization using cloud solutions on AWS. This position is located in Raleigh, NC, US.
The role requires 8–10 years of software development experience and involves close collaboration with the data modernization teams at ITD and DPH to design, implement, and manage AWS solutions that align with technical requirements and business objectives.
Skill Sets and Experience Include- Experience modernizing legacy applications, including refactoring/migrating in-house legacy apps to the cloud.
- Proficiency in utilizing AWS services and components for building enterprise‑level Data Lakes.
- Hands‑on Java development skills (Java, J2EE, Java Spring, Hibernate).
- Experience with transactional or relational databases.
- Experience with Dev Ops practices and automation tools.
- Knowledge of ETL tools and data analytics (Power BI, AWS Quick Sight, etc.) is a plus.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum frameworks.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and propose modernization strategies.
- Design, develop, and test Java‑based, cloud‑native applications and backend systems.
- Utilize AWS services within application architecture.
- Develop, test, debug, and deliver features on schedule using best tools and practices.
- Participate in code reviews, ensure security best practices, and maintain clean, efficient code.
- Monitor application performance and optimize for cost, security, and reliability.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues and challenges.
- Ensure adherence to standards and best practices.
- Work with product managers, business stakeholders, and team members to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
- Proficient in AWS services (VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue, Athena) – 5 years required.
- Java development skills – 7 years required.
- Modernizing applications experience – 5 years required.
- Modern database technologies and migration strategies – 5 years required.
- Dev Ops practices and automation tools – 5 years required.
- Data analytics, business intelligence (Power BI, AWS Quick Sight) – 2 years desired.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills – 7 years required.
- Experience creating AWS ETL jobs, data pipelines with high volumes – 3 years required.
- AWS certification – desired.
- State government experience – desired.
