Software Engineer, Backend (Marketplace Experience)

The Marketplace team in Direct to Consumer builds the discovery platforms behind affirm’s search, deals, and merchant details experiences. Our mission is to help shoppers find the right merchant and financing for their needs.

As a member of our team, you’ll ship features that make it faster and easier for shoppers to find the right merchant and financing for their needs. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to scope work, write clean and well‑tested code, review PRs, and ship new functionality iteratively. • Work on tasks that contribute to the team's projects and goals.

• Previous work or internship experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale and experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to translate a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, writing clear, well‑tested, extensible code.
• Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
• Ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from teammates, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Either equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Employees new to affirm typically start at the beginning of the pay range. affirm focuses on a simple and transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and job‑related skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $130,000 - $170,000

USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $115,000 - $155,000

The majority of our roles are remote and you can work almost anywhere within the country of employment. affirmers in proximal roles have the flexibility to work remotely, but will occasionally be required to work out of their assigned affirm office. A limited number of roles remain office‑based due to the nature of their job responsibilities.
