Job Description

We are looking for a Communications Specialist to manage a high volume of incoming and outbound calls daily. This position will be full-time
contract and remote
.

What You'll Do
  • Efficiently manage a high volume of incoming and outbound calls daily.
  • Provide accurate and thorough referrals to maternal and child health services using multiple intake screening processes.
  • Conduct follow-up with all clients to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of early childhood systems, including:
    Help Me Grow IN, Home Visiting, Early Childhood Special Education, and Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs programs.
  • Compile and mail information packets and screening tools to families as needed.
  • Send confirmation letters and resource information to referral sources.
  • Maintain filing systems for all cases.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and conferences to maintain professional knowledge and best practices.
  • Collaborate as an effective team member and support other staff when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs and direct them to appropriate resources.
  • Assist clients with Medicaid applications and obtaining navigator licensure.
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources and service providers statewide, helping identify service gaps.
  • Apply Information & Referral (I&R) standards and utilize the Vision Link Database.
  • Assist Lead Communication Specialist with daily caller data reports on call types, referrals, needs, and provider information.
What You'll Need

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Communications, Social Work, Information Technology, Education, Special Education, Home Visiting, or a related health/human services field
  • Understanding of social service and medical providers used for Helpline referrals
  • Ability to develop specialized knowledge of Information & Referral service standards
  • Strong listening and assessment skills, with sound judgment for appropriate referrals
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with professionals and the general public
  • Compassion and understanding when working with individuals in difficult situations
  • Logical thinking, composure under stress (including crisis, suicide, or abuse calls)
  • Respectful, nonjudgmental, client-centered approach
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments
  • Strong organization, multitasking, prioritization, and flexibility
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Share Point
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with maternal populations, special needs, or early childhood services
  • Knowledge of child development (typical and atypical) and special needs conditions
Preferred:
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish/Burmese/Haitian-Creole) highly desirable
Physical Demands
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education.
