Salary Range$61,000 – $62,070
Responsibilities- Construct, operate, maintain, and repair university electric power systems, including underground and overhead lines.
- Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical systems across all NC State campuses.
- Operate, maintain, and repair campus emergency generators.
- Maintain campus street and area lighting systems.
- Construct and install power system components to deliver electric service to new and existing buildings.
- Inspect systems, determine maintenance needs, and establish repair priorities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues using diagnostic instruments and computer tracking software.
- Identify and mitigate safety hazards related to electric shock, falls, burns, and chemical exposure.
- Plan and execute daily work activities efficiently to meet department objectives.
- Operate specialized equipment, including a line truck, as required.
- Collaborate with other power distribution electricians and elevate complex issues to a supervisor or team lead.
- Lift and transport materials weighing up to 90 lb and perform physically demanding tasks in diverse outdoor environments.
- High school diploma or equivalence and six months of electrical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Maintains required certification(s).
- Experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead electrical power distribution systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices (hazard recognition, lockout/tagout, fall protection).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems with diagnostic tools (voltmeters, power meters, computerized maintenance systems).
- Experience operating specialized utility equipment such as line trucks and lifts.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute work independently and as part of a team.
